I tested Kapten, Uber's new competitor and taxis in Lausanne and Geneva
Update: Kapten in Switzerland (Geneva and Lausanne) is suspended from 25 September 2019: The reason given is that the legislation is too restrictive…
With the new cantonal and municipal legislation regulating VTC and taxi services in Lausanne and Geneva, new competitors are appearing for taxis and… Uber.
So yesterday I tested a newcomer to Lausanne: Kapten. Well known in France (formerly "Private Driver"), Kapten moved in February 2019 to Geneva and then in May to Lausanne.
The service is similar to Uber: An app to order a ride. It is often the same drivers who drive for Uber and Kapten. But they prefer to accept Kapten races because the commission on their races is lower than with Uber.
Kapten offers a loyalty program that offers free rides for large users.
Uber has paved the way, with forceps and questionable methods, for such services. More local players are now taking place. Newcomers seem less arrogant than Uber and more respectful of their drivers. A good reason to give priority to these newcomers!
